In a major reshuffle in the country’s military command, the Government of India has appointed Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). He will also hold the responsibility of Secretary, Department of Military Affairs. The current CDS General Anil Chauhan will complete his term on 30 May 2026, after which Lieutenant General Subramani will take over. A recipient of prestigious awards like PVSM, AVSM, SM and VSM, Subramani has been a very experienced officer of the Indian Army. He is currently serving as a military advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat and has also served as the Vice Chief of the Army and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command. The post of CDS is considered the most important for creating coordination between the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force and now Subramani will play a key role in further strengthening and modernizing the Indian defence system.
