The final of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will be played today between England and Australia at the Lord’s ground, known as the Mecca of cricket. This match is also special because both the teams have not lost a single match during the entire tournament and have reached the final with six wins each. Australia has been the most successful team in this tournament and has won the World Cup six times so far, while the hosts England won this title for the first and only time in 2009. There have been 45 Women’s T20 International matches between the two teams so far, in which Australia has won 23 matches and England has won 21 matches, while one match has been drawn. The two have clashed seven times in the Women’s T20 World Cup, in which Australia has won five times and England twice. This is the fourth time that the two teams have faced each other in the final. Previously, Australia had won the trophy by defeating England in the finals of 2012, 2014 and 2018, but this time England will be encouraged by their record of winning all four T20 matches at their home ground and Lord’s.
In the tournament, Australia defeated South Africa, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Pakistan and India during the group stage, while defeating West Indies in the semi-finals to make it to the final. On the other hand, England qualified for the title match by defeating Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, West Indies and New Zealand in the semi-finals by defeating South Africa by 40 runs. The biggest concern for Australia before the final is the fitness of star all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who retired hurt during the semi-finals. However, she has given the team a break by practicing in the nets before the final. Captain Nat Seaver-Brunt’s form is a big weapon for England. Returning from injury, he played a brilliant innings of 75 runs off 47 balls in the semi-finals to lead the team to victory.
The Lord’s pitch has proven to be the most helpful for fast bowlers during this World Cup. The seam movement and extra bounce with the new ball have made the early overs challenging for the batsmen. Yet this is the ground where Australia proved their strong batting by successfully chasing down the target of 171 runs set by India in the group stage. In such a situation, cricket lovers are expecting an exciting and high-level final, where England will try to create history in front of their home audience, while Australia will look to further consolidate their dominance in women’s cricket by winning their seventh world title.
