Squash World Cup: Indian mixed team wins historic gold by defeating Hong Kong 3-0

The Indian mixed team created history by defeating Hong Kong 3-0 in the final of the Squash World Cup played at the Express Avenue Mall in Chennai. This is India’s first gold medal in the mixed team event. Before this, India’s best performance was a bronze medal in 2023. 12 teams participated in this tournament in short and fast formats. India made it to the final by defeating the strong Egyptian team in the semi-finals. The dominance of Indian players continued from start to finish in the final match.

The Indian team was led by veteran player Joshna Chinappa. In the first match of the final, Joshna defeated Hong Kong’s Yi Li 3-1 to give India the lead. After this, Abhay Singh defeated Alex Lau 3-0. In the deciding match, 17-year-old Anahat Singh defeated Tomato Ho 3-0 to seal India’s historic victory.

The Indian team included Joshna Chinappa, Abhay Singh, Levalan Senthilkumar and Anahat Singh. A large number of spectators were present at the Express Avenue Mall to watch the competition. The Prime Minister congratulated the Indian team on winning the Squash World Cup. He wrote in a social media post that the Indian team has created history by winning the Squash World Cup for the first time. He praised the hard work, dedication and determination of Joshna Chinappa, Abhay Singh, Velavan Senthilkumar and Anahat Singh and said that this victory will increase the popularity of squash among the youth of the country. Squash is being included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics for the first time. In such a situation, this victory is being considered a big achievement for young players Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh as well as for Indian squash.
