The Indian men’s and women’s teams will enter the Asian Games in Japan as strong contenders for the gold medal this time too. The Indian men’s team led by Shreyas Iyer will start its campaign on September 28, while the women’s team led by Harmanpreet Kaur will play its first match against the hosts Japan on September 18. Both the Indian teams have been seeded due to their strong position and will enter the competition directly from the quarter-final stage. The match will be held at the Korogi Athletic Park near Nagoya. India had also won the title in the last edition of the Asian Games held in China, due to which the expectations from the team to retain the title this time too are very high. In the women’s category, the Indian team will first face Japan, while in the men’s category, India’s quarter-final match will be against the second-placed team in Group A. Group A includes the teams of Afghanistan, Japan and Nepal and the second-placed team among them will face India in the quarter-finals. The women’s final will be played on September 22, while the men’s final will be held on October 3. Apart from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have also been seeded in the men’s category, while a total of eight teams have been seeded in the women’s category. Considering the current form of the Indian teams, the presence of experienced players and the success achieved in the previous edition, this time too, both the teams are expected to perform brilliantly and win the gold medal.
