US President Donald Trump has signed two new executive orders to limit the scope of birthright citizenship and crack down on birth tourism. Under the order, children will no longer be granted citizenship on the basis of birth tourism, meaning children whose mothers come to the US on a tourist visa solely to give birth, automatically becoming US citizens at birth, will no longer be granted citizenship.
It is worth noting that the US Supreme Court has overturned Trump’s order denying citizenship to children born to illegal immigrants in the US. Despite this, the Trump administration claims that these new orders are completely constitutional.
Trump has signed two executive orders related to immigration. One of the orders addresses birth tourism, which will increase visa restrictions on foreign visitors coming to the United States to give birth.
Meanwhile, under the second order, children born in the US to parents associated with terrorism will also be denied US citizenship. In addition, children born in the US to diplomats, government employees and those working for international organizations will also be denied citizenship.
It is worth noting that in June, the US Supreme Court upheld birthright citizenship. The court rejected Trump’s previous efforts to declare that children of people living in the US illegally or temporarily are not US citizens.
The court said that children of people living in the US illegally or temporarily are automatically entitled to US citizenship. Trump described the Supreme Court’s decision as very unfortunate. He said that it is hurting our country and now we will solve it in a different way.
