Team India opened their account of victory on the England tour by defeating the host team by 6 wickets in the first ODI played at Edgbaston ground in Birmingham. With this victory, India took a significant 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Chasing a target of 259 runs, India achieved the target in the 46th over, despite losing the early wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, thanks to captain Shubman Gill’s brilliant 80 runs, Axar Patel’s unbeaten 57 and Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 52 runs. Earlier, Axar Patel also excelled in bowling and took four wickets, due to which he was considered the biggest hero of the match. India’s all-round performance gave England a strong start in the series by defeating them in the first match.
