Indian team will not play Asian Volleyball Tournament in Pakistan

The Pakistan Volleyball Federation said on Sunday that India has withdrawn its team from the Central Asian Volleyball Championship to be held in Islamabad next month. PVF official Abdul Ahid said that India had confirmed sending a 30-member team, including 22 players, to the championship, which begins on May 28 at the Jinnah Campus. The terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, in which 26 tourists were killed, has increased diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

“Indian volleyball officials have informed the regional body that their government has cancelled the NOC (No Objection Letter) issued to them for the tournament following the incident in Pahalgam,” Ahid said. “It is disappointing to know that India has withdrawn from the championship and will be replaced by Afghanistan or Sri Lanka,” he said. “Teams from Iran, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will participate in the competition.”
