US President Donald Trump has suffered a setback from the Supreme Court. The court has blocked Trump’s proposal to ban citizenship based on birth. However, the court has agreed to hear arguments on the issue and will hear it in May.

 The U.S. Supreme Court will not yet directly decide whether Trump’s decision is constitutional. For now, the court will focus on a more technical matter that could have a major impact in the future. The issue is whether lower court judges can order a nationwide halt to the president’s policies.

Last month, the Trump administration filed an urgent appeal with the Supreme Court. It asked the court to remove or reduce these orders. The government said that lower court judges should not have the power to make decisions so sweeping that they could block any policy across the country.

The US Supreme Court said in its order on Thursday that it will hear the case on May 15. The hearing will be on the issue of whether district judges have the authority to issue orders that apply across the country. It is rare for the court to schedule arguments on emergency appeals. This shows that the court is taking the Trump administration’s point seriously. If the Supreme Court agrees with Trump that the judges violated their rights, it could allow the government to immediately implement its citizenship policy in some areas.
