First day of filing nominations for municipal elections in Punjab today

Municipal Corporation elections have been announced in Punjab. Now the voting will be held on December 21. The counting will be done in the evening after the voting on the same day. The dates of the elections of 5 Municipal Corporations and 43 Municipal Councils of the state have been announced. The process of filing nominations will start today from December 9 and along with this, December 12 will be the last date for filing nominations. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on December 13. December 14 will be the last day for withdrawal of nominations.

Along with the announcement of the dates for the municipal elections, the model code of conduct has also come into effect. Let us tell you that the notification to hold the municipal elections in the last week of December was issued by the Principal Secretary of the Local Government Department a long time ago, but the voting time had not been announced yet. Now the elections have been announced.

Out of the total voters in Punjab, there are 37,32,636 registered voters, including 19,55,888 males, 17,76,544 females and 204 others, who are under revision based on the special revision made till 7th December 2024. EVMs will be used for voting.

Necessary EVMs have been arranged for the elections. Voting will be held on 21.12.2024 from 7.00 am to 04.00 pm through EVMs. After the completion of the voting process, the counting of votes will be done at the polling station on the same day. Voting will be conducted for 381 wards of Municipal Corporations and 598 wards of Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats.
