ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟੋਰੇਟ ਆਫ ਰੈਵੇਨਿਊ ਇੰਟੈਲੀਜੈਂਸ (ਡੀਆਰਆਈ) ਨੇ ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਨਾਗਪੁਰ, ਭੋਪਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਚੇਨਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੰਗਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੱਛੂਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ 955 ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ 6 ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਠੋਸ ਯਤਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ, ਨਾਗਪੁਰ, ਭੋਪਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਚੇਨਈ ਵਿੱਚ 30.09.2023 ਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਲ 6 ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕੱਛੂਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ 955 ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾ ਬੱਚੇ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ। ਬਚਾਏ ਗਏ ਗੰਗੇਟਿਕ ਕੱਛੂਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਟੈਂਟ ਟਰਟਲ, ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਫਲੈਪਸ਼ੇਲ ਕੱਛੂ, ਕਰਾਊਨ ਰਿਵਰ ਟਰਟਲ, ਬਲੈਕ ਸਪਾਟਡ/ਪੋਂਡ ਟਰਟਲ ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਊਨ ਰੂਫਡ ਟਰਟਲ ਹਨ।
ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਤਸਕਰੀ ਅਤੇ ‘ਗੈਂਗਟਿਕ ਕੱਛੂਆਂ’ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨੂੰ IUCN ਰੈੱਡ ਲਿਸਟ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਈਲਡਲਾਈਫ (ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ) ਐਕਟ, 1972 ਦੀ ਅਨੁਸੂਚੀ I ਅਤੇ II ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਲੁਪਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ/ਨੇੜੇ ਖ਼ਤਰੇ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਵਜੋਂ ਮਨੋਨੀਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਵਪਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਘਟਣਾ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਸਲਾਂ ਲਈ ਵੱਡਾ ਖਤਰਾ ਹੈ।ਡੀਆਰਆਈ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਥਾਵਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੱਛੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਲਈ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੰਗਲੀ ਜੀਵ (ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ) ਐਕਟ, 1972 ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਮੁਢਲੀ ਜ਼ਬਤ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਦੇ ਕੱਛੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਗਲੇਰੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਲਈ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਜੰਗਲਾਤ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended 6 persons with 955 live baby Gangetic turtles of different species at Nagpur, Bhopal and Chennai yesterday.
The species of Gangetic turtles rescued are Indian Tent Turtle, Indian Flapshell Turtle, Crown River Turtle, Black spotted/Pond Turtle and Brown Roofed Turtle. After the initial seizure under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, the perpetrators and Gangetic turtles were handed over to the respective Forest Departments for further investigation.
The operation comes in a series of other such crackdowns over the past months, as DRI continues its resolve to preserve the environment and combat illegal wildlife trafficking. Some of the species rescued are specified as vulnerable/near threatened species under IUCN Red List and Schedule I and II of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Illegal trade, over exploitation for meat and habitat degradation are major threats to the survival of these species.
