The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squads for the upcoming ODI and T20 series against the West Indies. The selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar has selected the team for three ODIs and five T20 matches. Experienced batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be seen in action again in the ODI series starting from September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram. Shubman Gill will captain the ODI team, while KL Rahul has been given the responsibility of vice-captain and wicketkeeper. Dhruv Jurel has also been included in the team as wicketkeeper.
Ravindra Jadeja and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also returned to the ODI team. Apart from this, many players including Ruturaj Gaikwad and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been given a chance. The selectors have also included some new faces in the team. However, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya did not get a place in the ODI team this time. Hardik has not played any competitive match yet after the injury, so the selectors are being cautious about his fitness.
On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer has been named captain and Tilak Verma will be the vice-captain for the five-match T20 series starting in Lucknow from October 6. The T20 team includes players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Verma. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav and fast bowler Mayank Yadav have also returned to the T20 team. Thus, the Indian team will see a mix of experience and youth in both the upcoming series against the West Indies.
