The Indian women’s cricket team won the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 title in a grand style by defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final. Batting first, Team India posted a strong score of 183 runs, in response to which the Sri Lankan team could only score 111 runs. With this victory, India won the Women’s Asia Cup trophy for the eighth time. However, after the match ended, the atmosphere heated up during the trophy ceremony when the Indian team did not accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi. The Sri Lankan players were given medals and runners-up cheques, but the Indian players did not come to the stage and went back to the dressing room. Naqvi also left the field without giving the trophy. This entire incident revived memories of the controversy that took place after the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup final and the trophy ceremony became the center of discussion more than the match.
