The Indian men’s hockey team has started its campaign in the Hockey World Cup 2026 with a brilliant victory. In the first match of Pool D played on Independence Day on August 15, India defeated Wales 3-1. Sanjay opened the team’s account in the 8th minute, while captain Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner to make the team’s lead 2-0. In the second half, India continued its aggressive approach and further strengthened its position by scoring a third goal. Wales tried to come back by scoring a goal in the 56th minute, but the Indian defense showed strength till the last moment and won the match 3-1. With this victory, Team India has made a strong start in Pool D.
