Tata Group airline Air India has announced a major relief for passengers travelling abroad and has reduced the fuel surcharge on international flights to North America, Europe and the UK. The new rates have come into effect from July 1, which will bring some reduction in the ticket cost of passengers travelling on these routes. According to sources, the airline has taken this decision in view of the fall in crude oil prices. However, there has been no change in the fuel surcharge for domestic flights and other international routes and it will continue as before. It may be recalled that in April this year, after the increase in crude oil and jet fuel prices due to the West Asia crisis, Air India had implemented fuel surcharge on both domestic and international flights. Now, with the easing in oil prices, the company has decided to provide relief to passengers by reducing this burden on select international routes.
