The Indian women’s football team performed brilliantly and won the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 title. India defeated Bangladesh 3-1 in the final match played at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Madgaon, Goa to win the tournament for a record sixth time. Thanks to goals from Piari Jakhsa, Sanfida Nongroom and Linda Kom Setro, India regained the title after 7 years. The Indian team, which remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, scored 18 goals and conceded only one goal. Defending champions Bangladesh’s hopes of winning the title for the third consecutive time were also dashed. Experienced player Dangmei Grace said goodbye to international football after this match. She had debuted for India in 2012 and ended her career with another SAFF title after playing 95 international matches.
PM Modi congratulated the Indian women’s team on winning the SAFF Championship. He tweeted that the women’s team performed brilliantly during the tournament. This victory will inspire more young players to play football in the coming times and best wishes to the team for their future endeavors.
