In view of the orders of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the sentiments of the Khalsa Panth, Jathedar Singh Sahib of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Baba Tek Singh Ji has called an important meeting at Takht Sahib on May 17 to discuss the ‘The Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act 2026’ passed by the Punjab Government.

Singh Sahib Baba Tek Singh Ji said that the interference by the Punjab government in the internal religious affairs of the Sikhs will never be tolerated. He alleged that the government passed the law without taking the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and Sri Akal Takht Sahib into confidence, which seems to be an attempt to impose unnecessary responsibility on Sikh institutions and Gurdwara administrators.

He said that during the gathering, legal experts and scholars will present their views on various provisions of the Act and the shortcomings of the law will be put before the congregation. Singh Sahib said that the dignity and respect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is an internal matter of the Panth. The government should make laws to give strict punishment to the culprits of sacrilege, but government interference in the service, maintenance and propagation of the forms of Guru Sahib cannot be accepted.

Information has also been given about the special arrival of Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and Harjinder Singh Dhami on this occasion. Singh Sahib has appealed to all Gurdwara Management Committees, Granthi Singhs and religious organizations to reach Takht Sri Damdama Sahib on time on May 17 so that Panthic unity can be expressed.
