Let us tell you that Trump had earlier imposed a 25 percent tariff on India and announced an additional 25 percent tariff on the purchase of Russian oil, which is going to be implemented from today, August 27. In such a situation, the total tariff on India will now be 50 percent. Due to this, the Sensex-Nifty started with a sharp decline and while the BSE Sensex fell by more than 629 points, the NSE Nifty fell by more than 200 points.
The stock market opened on a bearish note on Tuesday with the 30-share Sensex index of the Bombay Stock Exchange opening at 81,377.39, down sharply from its previous close of 81,635.91. After this, the decline deepened and after just half an hour of trading, the Sensex fell by over 630 points to below 81,000 and was seen trading at 80,947.
