The path to obtaining a green card may be difficult for Indian IT workers working in the US. The US government’s action against 8 major companies, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro and HCL Tech, is likely to affect the permanent residency process of foreign employees. The list also includes Cognizant, Microsoft, Adobe and France’s Capgemini. A labor certification process called PERM is crucial to obtaining a green card, under which the company has to prove that the rules regarding giving opportunities to American employees for the relevant position have been followed. If this process is blocked, new applications of some employees of the affected companies and already ongoing cases may be delayed. This may especially affect those foreign workers who are waiting for a green card to live and work in the US for a long time. However, this action does not mean that the jobs or H-1B visas of all employees of these companies have automatically ended. The actual impact on employees depends on their visa status and the stage of their green card application.
Will do.
