National Gatka Association celebrates International Gatka Day by demonstration of martial art skills

SAS Nagar, June 23 : Gatka players of National Gatka Association of India (NGAI) and International Sikh Martial Arts Academy (ISMAA) performed an impressive display of Sikh martial art Gatka skills on the occasion of International Gatka Day.
          Disclosing this here today Finance Secretary of National Gatka Association S. Baljit Singh and Coach S. Yograj Singh said the Gatka players has celebrated this day under the direction of President NGAI S. Harjeet Singh Grewal keeping in view the Corona virus and following the instructions issued by the government. He said apart from this various units of NGAI in Punjab and Haryana also actively took part in demonstrations of Gatka on World Gatka Day.
On the occasion chief guest Sant Baba Kapur Singh Saneran waley blessed the Gatka players. Referring to the history of Gatka and the importance of this art, he said Guru Hargobind ji, the sixth guru, combined ‘Miri’ and ‘Peeri’ to imbibe the spirit in Sikhs as the saints and soldiers respectively. “Guru Sahib, while wearing the two swords of “Miri’ and ‘Peeri’ at the supreme seat, the Akal Takhat sahib, ordered all the ‘sangat’ to be well-armed and keep horses having good breed. He also encouraged the Gatkabaaz to adopt ‘Bani’ and ‘Bana’.
On the occasion General Secretary Harjinder Singh, Gatka coach Harwinder Singh, Coordinator Bhupinder Singh, Darshan Singh Sidhu and Gatka players were also present.
