The central government has decided to reduce the duty on export of petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF), which will be effective from June 1, 2026. The government has reduced the export duty on petrol by Rs 1.5 per litre, diesel by Rs 13.50 per litre and ATF by Rs 9.5 per litre. However, this move will not have any direct impact on domestic consumers as there has been no change in the taxes applicable on petrol and diesel in the country. This decision has been taken in view of the softening in crude oil prices in the international market.

On Sunday, May 31, oil companies did not change the prices of petrol and diesel. Petrol is being sold at Rs 102.12 and diesel at Rs 95.20 per litre in Delhi. Fuel prices have increased by about Rs 7.5 per litre during the month of May. Currently, the price of petrol has reached above Rs 110 per litre in many major cities of the country, while in Hyderabad it is more than Rs 115 per litre. The earlier cut in excise duty by the government is still in effect.
