Ludhiana, June 8: The United Bicycle and Parts Manufacturers Association has strongly opposed the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ decision to consider installing a special type of 3M tape on bicycles in the name of safety for cyclists.  Has done |  In a statement issued by the General Secretary of the Association Mr. Manjinder Singh Sachdeva the Senior Vice President of the Association Mr. Gurcharan Singh Gemco, Vice President Mr. Satnam Singh Makkar, Finance Secretary Mr. Achhru Ram Gupta, Propaganda Secretary Mr. Rajinder Singh Sarhali, Joint Secretary Mr.  Vilayti Ram ,In a statement, told the central government that if they really wanted the safety of cyclists, they should build ‘cycle lanes’ along the roads in the country so that cyclists could ride without any worries.  The leaders said that the 3M reflective tape was not yet manufactured in our  country ,and it would have to be imported from  China.  With this tape, the bicycle will become more expensive by Rs. 20/-.The leaders expressed surprise that 2 wheelers & 4 wheeler vehicles with reflective tapes and headlights collide every day in the country, killing hundreds of people.  But these conditions are not helping to prevent accidents . The  real solution is safe driving and safe roads.  Therefore, instead of imposing more burden on the bicycle industry, the government should focus on creating ‘cycle lanes’ along every road.
