Foundation Stone Laid for the Veterinary Surgery Center for Stray Dogs in Chuhar Chak, Moga

The community of Chuhar Chak, Moga, witnessed a significant step towards animal welfare with the laying of the foundation stone for the Veterinary Surgery Center for Stray Dogs, as part of the “Barking For A Better Punjab” initiative. The honorable Dr. JPS Gill, Vice Chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, officiated the ceremony on Saturday, marking a milestone in enhancing the lives of stray animals in the region.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), who served as the Chief Guest.
Sh. Bal Mukund Sharma, Chairman of the State Food Commission, Punjab, coordinated the stage. Other distinguished dignitaries in attendance included S. Amardeep Singh Rai, Additional DGP Traffic; S. Jagwinder Singh Grewal, ADC Development Moga; Mr. Sarang Preet Singh, SDM Moga; S. Kahan Singh Pannu, former IAS officer; S. JP Singh, retired PCS; and Gurpreet Singh Toor, retired DIG Punjab Police, along with other local and state dignitaries.
The Veterinary Surgery Center aims to provide humane treatment for stray dogs through sterilization and vaccination programs, alongside community education initiatives. Looking to the future, the center also plans to care for sick stray pets and establish an adoption center to facilitate responsible pet ownership.
In addition to the foundation stone ceremony, the dignitaries explored local water harvesting and waste management projects in Chuhar Chak, highlighting the community’s commitment to sustainable development.
This vital project owes much of its success to the efforts of Surinder Pal Sharma, an NRI who has dedicated the last two years to modernizing his village in collaboration with local leaders, including S. Navroop Singh, retired SDO PWD. The initiative has garnered substantial support from fellow NRIs and residents, fostering a unified approach to local development.
This project is a collaboration between the Roundglass Foundation India and Barking For A Better Punjab, underscoring the significant impact that collective action can have on animal welfare in the region.
