Punjab’s daughter Sifat Kaur Samra has once again proved her mettle with her hard work and dedication. She has created history by winning India’s first gold medal in the ISSF World Cup. She won the gold medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) event during the Shooting World Cup held in Argentina. This is also her first gold medal in the ISSF World Cup. The 23-year-old Sifat, who hails from Faridkot, performed brilliantly at the Tiro Federal Shooting Range held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In the final, she was 7.2 points behind Germany’s Anita Mangold during the kneeling position, but she made a strong comeback in the prone and standing positions to secure the first place.
Sifat finished with 458.6 points at the end of the 45-shot final, while Mangold was 3.3 points behind with 455.3. After missing out on a medal in the first final on the first day of the competition, India has now ended the second day of the competition with one gold and one bronze medal, which was earlier won by Chain Singh in the men’s 3P. China is on top with one gold and one silver medal. Sifat Kaur’s victory is a result of her continuous hard work, talent and the tireless guidance of shooting coach Ms. Rajwinder Kaur, who has given new pride and recognition to the Indian female sports power at the world level.
