The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been tightening its grip on corruption in Chandigarh Police. In a major operation, the CBI has arrested ASI Sher Singh posted at ISBT-43 red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4500. This was the second CBI trap on Chandigarh Police in a month.
Earlier, constables and officers posted in a unit of the crime branch were also on the CBI’s radar but they got the tip-off in time and hence the trap failed. Senior officers of Chandigarh Police are also aware of the entire matter.
ASI Sher Singh posted in ISBT-43 had demanded a bribe from the complainant to avoid arrest in a cheque bounce case of Rs 1.5 lakh. The complainant lodged a complaint with CBI Sector-30. The CBI registered a case of demanding bribe from Sher Singh and through an intermediary, laid a trap at the police post itself at around 4:30 pm on Monday. The CBI has registered a case against the accused ASI Sher Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is underway.
