Punjab Government on Wednesday changed the Chief Secretary of the state, replacing Anurag Verma with 1992 batch IAS officer KAP Sinha. This change has come at the top level in view of other changes being made in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s office at the behest of the Aam Aadmi Party high command.

Four of the CMs aides have already been asked to resign/submitted their resignation, including one who was removed. While no immediate reason has been given for the change in the state’s top administrative post, sources say the party high command is “not happy with the delay in implementation of government schemes and delay in decisions”.

Last week, the outgoing Chief Secretary Verma was reportedly called to Delhi for a meeting with the party top brass. Sinha, who replaced Verma as CS was currently posted as Special Chief Secretary, Revenue and Rehabilitation and Development – ​​two of the most important posts in the state. He served as administrative head of various departments including Finance and Food and Supplies. Worked, and is known as a good decision maker. Sinha was senior to Verma, the latter being of the 1993 batch. Sinha is the fourth Chief Secretary of Punjab since the AAP government came to power in Punjab in the last two-and-a-half years.
