Seminar on Migration to Minimum Safety and Quality Standard for Bicycle and Parts.
Ludhiana- (Sarahali)
UCPMA organised a seminar on “Migration to Minimum Safety and Quality Standard of Bicycle and parts ” by Dr K.B.Thakur SG AICMA. In fact, DPIIT GOI, based on perpetuated demand of various stakeholders and multiple perceived benefits have decided to migrate from voluntary to mandatory Bicycle and parts standards . Dr Thakur stated that in the era of WTO regime driven global market place , all goods and services including Bicycle continue to face ever increasing competition . In this context , if Indian Bicycle sector aspires to emerge as a global leader in Bicycle manufacturing , it is prerequisite to have a sound and sustainable ecosystem in the entire bicycle value chain like Indian automobile sector. The current roadblocks of Bicycle sectors inter- alia include Current unstructured manufacturing ( Absence of minimum Bicycle /parts standards , flourishing substandard / untested Bicycles, No/ under invoicing, GST/IT evasion, non -compliance safety measures , etc) , unfair market( misuse of credits, focus on margins and not on quality , illegal imports , etc) and compromising cyclists safety ( unsafe/ un-roadworthy Bicycles ).
He concluded that migrating to minimum mandatory of Bicycle/parts of the Government would be a visionary initiative in creating sound and sustainable ecosystem of Bicycle , which will invite/welcome one and all to do Bicycle business with structured manufacturing , fair market and safer cyclists . In particular , it will help manufacturing to migrate from company prescribed standards to uniform Industry level standards thus eliminating repetition and increasing quality and profits. It will be win-win situation for ensuring faster growth and better development of the Indian Bicycle sector. The mandatory process will involve upgration of standards by BIS , upscaling of Bicycle R&D Centre Ludhiana as third party testing and certification agency and issuing Quality control order by DPIIT. The work on Bicycle standards upgradation is in final stage.
