1984 anti-Sikh riots case: In the 1984 Pul Bangash Sikh massacre case against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court on Friday reserved its verdict on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case. have taken The court is likely to pronounce its order on the charges on August 2.
This case is related to the killing of Sikhs in Pul Bangash area in 1984. Special CBI Judge Rakesh Syal reserved the decision to frame charges after arguments and clarifications by CBI and Jagdish Tytler’s counsel. The CBI had filed a supplementary charge sheet against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in May last year.
During the hearing, defense counsel Manu Sharma argued through a video of Doordarshan that according to the video, Tytler was present in the tin mortuary house where Indira Gandhi’s body was kept on the day of the alleged incident. The CBI also referred to Amitabh Bachchan’s statement. Manu Sharma argued that the CBI has filed three closure reports. The CBI had filed a chargesheet against co-accused Suresh Kumar Panewala in 2009. He was acquitted by the lower court. It was also argued that no witness came forward from 1984 to 2022-23. After a long gap of 40 years, the witnesses are coming forward. They argued that how can they be trusted.
The Central Bureau of Investigation had completed its arguments on framing of charges on April 16. The CBI had said that there were such eyewitnesses who had seen Jagdish Tytler instigating the mob during the 1984 riots. Sufficient material is available to frame charges against accused Jagdish Tytler. During his arguments, the CBI counsel read the statements of four eyewitnesses, including Surinder Singh, who saw the accused instigating the mob after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. This case relates to the alleged murder of three Sikhs Thakur Singh, Badal Singh and Gurcharan Singh on 1 November 1984 in front of the Pul Bangash Gurdwara. Congress leader Jagdish Tytler is the accused.
