Bank employees and officers across the country will go on a three-day strike from September 28 to September 30. The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) with its four main demands. These include implementation of a five-day banking week, changes in the performance-based incentive scheme, bilateral discussions in this regard and resolution of other pending issues. The biggest demand of the unions is to give holidays to all Saturdays in banks. Due to the strike, cash deposits and withdrawals, cheque clearing, account-related work and other services of bank branches may be affected. The special thing is that since September 30 is the half-year end date for banks, the strike is likely to have a greater impact on operations at this time. However, digital services like UPI, ATM, internet banking and mobile banking are expected to remain operational. Banks have advised customers to complete essential branch-related work before the strike.
