Indian women wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s hopes of making a comeback in international wrestling have been dealt a major blow. The Delhi High Court has dismissed the interim relief plea sought by Vinesh Phogat to participate in the selection trial for the 2026 Senior World Championship. Justice Swaran Kanta Sharma said during the hearing that the rules set by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) are the same for all wrestlers and no player can be given special exemption from these rules. The court made it necessary to comply with the standards set for 6 Olympic weight categories under the WFI circular dated September 7, 2026. After this decision, Vinesh’s participation in the selection trial to be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi on September 14 is currently closed. Vinesh Phogat had challenged the new selection system and circular of the WFI in the court.
