The sensational case of paper leak in Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) has raised serious questions on the education system. The university’s investigation revealed that Ashish Kumar Gupta, an assistant professor and external paper setter of Shivalik College of Engineering, had shared the questions of the subject ‘Machine Learning for Internet of Things’ through WhatsApp and internal portal before the exam. Apart from this, the possibility of breach of confidentiality of the question paper of ‘Electromagnetic Field Theory’ also came to light. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the university has immediately cancelled both the exams and announced to conduct the re-examination in the third week of August. Along with this, the accused professor has been removed from all duties related to the exam for seven years and a strict warning has also been issued to the college. On the other hand, NSUI has opened a front against the university administration, terming this incident as a game with the future of the students and has demanded strict action against the culprits, fair investigation and protection of the interests of the students.
