The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has started strict action against defaulters to recover the outstanding amount of property tax. Notices are being sent to commercial property owners for attachment and sealing, while preparations are being made to disconnect water and sewerage connections of residential defaulters. The corporation has so far issued notices to more than 1,000 defaulters and the process of action is underway in more than 3,000 other cases. Now, after the grace period ends, a penalty of 25 percent and an annual interest of 12 percent will also be applicable on the outstanding tax. The Municipal Corporation has appealed to property owners to deposit their property tax immediately to avoid legal action.
