England defeated India by 56 runs in the fifth and final T20I at the Rose Bowl in Southampton to clinch the series 4-0. This is the first time that the Indian team has lost four consecutive matches in a T20I series or tournament. Batting first after losing the toss, England posted a massive score of 257/3 in 20 overs thanks to the explosive innings of Jos Buttler (131) and Harry Brook (95*). The two of them completely neutralized the Indian bowlers by putting up a record partnership of 233 runs for the second wicket. Chasing a difficult target of 258 runs, India had a weak start, although Ishan Kishan played useful innings of 56, Tilak Verma 53 and Sanju Samson 27 runs, but the team could only reach 201/8 in 20 overs. Sam Curran took three wickets in this magnificent victory for England, while Buttler was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his match-winning century. With this defeat, the Indian team not only lost the series, but also had to create several unwanted records.
