The process for the appointment of a regular DGP in Punjab Police has now reached its final stage. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has called a meeting of the Empanelment Committee on June 30, in which a panel of three names will be prepared from among the senior IPS officers of the Punjab cadre. The Punjab government will appoint one officer from this panel as the regular DGP of the state. This appointment is considered very important for the police department, which has been running under the acting DGP for almost four years. Keeping in mind the directions of the Supreme Court and the 2027 assembly elections, this decision can prove to be important for law and order and administrative strength. Now all eyes are on the UPSC meeting on June 30 and the final decision of the Punjab government thereafter.
