The ICC has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect. The International Cricket Council has taken this action citing repeated breaches of its obligations under the ICC Constitution.
A media release issued by the ICC said that the International Cricket Council today confirmed the suspension of USA Cricket’s membership status with immediate effect following a full review of the matter last year and extensive engagement with key stakeholders. Highlighting the decision, the release said that the decision taken by the ICC Board at its previous meeting was based on USA Cricket’s repeated and persistent breaches of its obligations as an ICC member under the ICC Constitution. These included the failure to implement a functioning governance structure, the lack of progress towards achieving National Governing Body status with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and significant actions that have damaged the reputation of cricket in the United States and around the world. The ICC stressed that the suspension is an unfortunate but necessary step to protect the long-term interests of the game and that the ICC The main priority is to ensure that the players and the game are not affected by the suspension.
The ICC Board has decided that the US national teams will retain their right to participate in ICC events, including preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
