The Telecom Authority of India (TRAI) has tightened the rules to stop spam calls and has also talked about penalties. Mobile users will be able to easily report spam calls and also get rid of unwanted commercial calls (UCC). Therefore, TRAI gave the information by posting on the X platform (old name Twitter).

TRAI has amended the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Rules (TCCCPR), 2018 to improve consumer protection. From now on, consumers will be able to get rid of telemarketing calls coming from 10 numbers and the process of reporting has also been asked to be made easier. There is talk of imposing penalties on telecom companies. After this, telecom companies have objected to this decision. TRAI has already discontinued the 10-digit mobile number system for commercial communications. Therefore, a new number series will be launched, which will start from 140 and 1600 series. The 140 number series will be used for promotional calls while the 1600 series will be used for transaction-related calls.

After the new decision of TRAI, action is being taken against unregistered telemarketers who are using telecom resources in an arbitrary manner. For this, a fine will also be imposed.
