Indian women wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s troubles have worsened. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on May 9 issued a 15-page show-cause notice to Vinesh, seeking her response on charges of indiscipline and violation of anti-doping rules. The federation has alleged that Vinesh’s behavior has damaged the image of Indian wrestling and she has violated the WFI constitution as well as the UWW anti-doping rules. Along with this, the WFI has banned Vinesh from participating in any domestic tournament till June 26, 2026.

According to the federation, Vinesh did not complete the mandatory six-month notice period for her return from retirement. The notice also mentions that she was disqualified for exceeding the weight limit during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Meanwhile, UWW and ITA have also clarified that the athlete must give at least six months’ notice for a return and be available for doping testing. Now Vinesh will have to give her response within 14 days, while she will not be able to participate in any domestic competition, including the National Open Ranking Tournament to be held in Gonda.
