The US has announced a major operation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the US Central Command, there is a plan to stop ships traveling to and from Iranian ports from 7:30 pm Indian time today.
Donald Trump said that the main purpose of this blockade is to prevent Iran from exporting oil. He claimed that many countries are supporting the US in this step. According to Trump, Iran’s army has suffered heavy losses and its navy has been almost destroyed, where 158 ships have also been destroyed.
According to reports, The Wall Street Journal has said that the US is also looking at options for further military action against Iran after talks in Pakistan failed. The White House has also said that all options are open.
Meanwhile, Trump has issued a stern warning to China not to help Iran. He said that if China is caught providing military assistance, it could face tariffs of up to 50%.
Trump also said that several other countries, including the United Kingdom, would send mine-clearing naval ships to the Strait of Hormuz. In his words, the US is “locked and loaded” and ready for immediate action if necessary.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil routes. Any disruption here could have a major impact on global oil supplies and prices, which would directly impact countries like India.
