Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra becomes lieutenant

Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra has been appointed Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) in the Territorial Army. He was conferred the title by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi at a function in Delhi today. His mother Saroj Devi, father Satish Chopra, uncle Bhim Chopra and wife Himani More were also present on the occasion.

Neeraj Chopra, a resident of Panipat, Haryana, joined the army as a Naib Subedar on August 26, 2016. He was promoted to Subedar in 2021. After winning the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics, he was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal by the army. In 2022, Neeraj was promoted to Subedar Major.
