LUDHIANA TOPS STATE IN DISPATCHING RICE & WHEAT TO OTHER PARTS OF COUNTRY

DURING LOCKDOWN, 44 LAKH QUINTALS OF RICE & 7 LAKH QUINTALS OF WHEAT DISPATCHED TO OTHER STATES FROM LUDHIANA ALONE

Ludhiana, May 28: During the curfew/lockdown due to COVID 10, the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department Ludhiana not only provided ration to its residents, but even tops the state when it comes to dispatching rice and wheat to other parts of the country.

District Food & Civil Supplies Controller Ludhiana Mr Sukhwinder Singh Gill informed that ever since the curfew/lockdown was imposed in the month of March in the state, 44 lakh quintals of rice and 7 lakh quintals of wheat has been dispatched to other parts of the country through special trains. He informed that rice & wheat has been dispatched through 159 & 26 special trains from district Ludhiana respectively.

District Food & Civil Supplies Controllers (DFSCs) Ludhiana Mr Sukhwinder Singh Gill and Miss Harveen Kaur informed that under the leadership of Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu, the Department has worked hard during the curfew/lockdown in ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the residents. They informed that during the lockdown/curfew, the supply of essential commodities to residents was a challenge in itself, but still, district Ludhiana managed to top the state in dispatching rice and wheat to other parts of the country.

They said that the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department Punjab is committed in supplying all essential commodities to the residents. They said that under the Prime Minister Gareeb Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY), free ration is being provided to eligible Beneficiaries which includes 15 Kg wheat per member and 3 Kg pulses per family under scheme.

They informed that special teams for checking are being made to ensure ration delivery to needy people. Total 19 ration depots have been suspended after finding discrepancies during checking performed. They said that all the department officials are working hard to ensure that ration reaches every needy person on time.
