Neeraj Chopra finally broke the 90m mark as he achieved a new national record with a throw of 90.23m at the Doha Diamond League on Friday night. Neeraj could not win the competition as his long-time friend, Julian Weber of Germany, also broke the 90m mark for the first time and secured the first place with a throw of 91.06m. Granada’s Anderson Peters finished third with 85.34m.

Still, second place in the Doha Diamond League 2025 is a small setback to a big achievement for Neeraj, who has already won two medals at the Olympics, including a gold medal and the 2023 World Championship. Neeraj won all the major medals in the javelin throw event by consistently achieving figures of 88-89 meters but the Paris Olympics, where he lost the gold medal to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, showed him that 90 meters is now essential.
