A major explosion and fire broke out in the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday. 281 people were injured in the blast. Provincial disaster management official Mehrdad Hassanzadeh said the blast was very powerful. According to Iranian media, the number of injured in the blast has reached 281. Many of the injured have been admitted to hospitals in Hormozgan province.

According to Hassanzadeh, the explosion was caused by containers at Rajai Port. Relief and rescue teams are trying to reach the scene, while other teams  are busy evacuating the area.

According to information, videos of the incident are going viral on social media. In the video, a large cloud of black smoke can be seen rising into the sky.

Let us tell you that Rajai Port mainly handles container traffic and oil tanks and  petrochemical units are also present there, due to which there is a risk of further fire. After the explosion, the Iranian Customs Authority ordered the customs offices to immediately stop sending export and transit shipments to the port. This ban will remain in effect until further orders. However,  trucks that have already completed customs procedures have been allowed to exit the port area.

Meanwhile, the head of Iran’s National Emergency Service, Yaktaparast, said that those injured in the port explosion have been admitted to various hospitals.  The massive explosion on Saturday has not only halted port activities but also had a major impact on regional trade and supply chains.
