Electricity has become cheaper in Punjab, Regulatory Commission has issued new tariff for the year 2025-26.

There is good news for the people of Punjab. Electricity charges are not going to increase in the next financial year. The Punjab Electricity Regulatory Commission has not made any change in the electricity rates. Along with this, electricity rates have been reduced up to 300 units. Which will directly benefit the Punjab government. Because 300 units of electricity are free in the state.

The Commission has made a major reform and has converted the three slabs of the electricity bill into two. This means that there will be slabs for 0 to 300 units and above 300 units. Till now there were three slabs in the bill. 0 to 100, 101 to 300 and above 301 

According to the tariff released by the Commission on Friday, there has been no change in the tariff of any sector except the domestic sector. There is also no change in the tariff of more than 300 units in the domestic sector. While the bill of consumers consuming 300 units up to 2 kW used to be Rs 1781 earlier. He will now get Rs 1620. Similarly, the bills of consumers consuming 2 to 7 kW will also be reduced by Rs 90. However, the direct benefit of this will be to the Punjab government because 300 units of electricity are free per month in the state. This decision of the Commission will reduce the burden of electricity subsidy given by Punjab. Let us tell you that the Punjab government had kept a budget of Rs 7,614 crore for domestic electricity subsidy in 2025-26. With this decision of the Commission, the financial burden of the government will now be reduced. Let us tell you that the Punjab government’s electricity subsidy in the next financial year was estimated to be Rs 20,497 crore. It is estimated that this decision of the commission may reduce the burden of about Rs 500 crore on the Punjab government.
