Kunal Kamra gets relief from Madras High Court, gets interim anticipatory bail till April 7

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has been granted interim anticipatory bail by the Madras High Court till April 7. A case has been registered against Kunal Kamra at the Khar police station in Mumbai. The police have issued him a second summons for March 31.
Amid the growing controversy over his controversial remarks on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Kunal Kamra had filed a transit anticipatory bail petition in the Madras High Court. In his petition filed in the court, Kunal Kamra said that he has been living in Tamil Nadu since 2021 and wants bail fearing arrest by the Mumbai Police.
The 36-year-old stand-up comedian had recently landed in a controversy after performing a parody song on Eknath Shinde during his show at Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai. After the show, Shiv Sena supporters vandalised the club and its attached hotel. Following this, a case was registered against Kunal Kamra under defamation sections on the complaint of Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. Along with this, the Mumbai Police has issued summons to Kamra twice, asking him to appear at the Khar police station on March 31.
