Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests ASI for accepting bribe of Rs. 15000

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau, during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Friday arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sukhraj Singh, posted at Police Station Civil Lines Batala in Gurdaspur district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.

 According to the information, a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the accused ASI was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by the owner of a foundry in Gurdaspur on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. He further said that the complainant had alleged that an FIR was registered against him in Batala police station, where ASI Sukhraj Singh was the investigating officer (IO) in his case, and he had demanded Rs 15,000 to take his side during the investigation.

The spokesperson further said that after investigation of the complaint and supporting evidence, the allegations were found to be true. A case has been registered in this regard under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Range Amritsar. He said that the accused will be produced before the competent court tomorrow and further investigation of the case is underway.
