A Lucknow court has imposed a fine of Rs 200 on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his statement on Veer Savarkar. The decision was given by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court due to his continuous absence from the hearing. The court has directed Rahul Gandhi to appear in the court on April 14, 2025, failing which strict legal action can be taken against him.

The hearing against Rahul Gandhi is going on in the case of his statement on Veer Savarkar. The court had directed Rahul Gandhi to appear, but he did not appear in the court. During the hearing, lawyer Pranshu Agarwal appeared on behalf of Rahul Gandhi. He filed an application for exemption from appearing in the court. In this, he said that Rahul Gandhi is currently the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He had an important meeting in Delhi. Apart from this, he had to attend some other programs as well. Due to which he could not appear in the court. He respects the court’s orders and is not deliberately trying to avoid appearing in the court.

Rahul Gandhi had made a controversial statement about Veer Savarkar in a press conference in Akola. He had called Savarkar a ‘servant of the British’ and a ‘pensioner’. Nripendra Pandey reached the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court against this statement of Rahul Gandhi. Pandey has demanded that a case be registered against Rahul under sections 153(A) and 505 of the Indian Penal Code for his statement.
