Punjab News, 3 December 2024

The Aam Aadmi Party has appealed to the Punjab State Election Commission not to hold municipal elections during the martyrdom week. AAP Punjab President Aman Arora said that Martyrdom Day is a matter related to people’s feelings. The Election Commission should consider this before announcing the dates. Remember that earlier Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP have also appealed to the Election Commission not to hold the elections during the Shahidi Sabha. Arora said that various political parties and religious organizations have also raised this issue. It is a matter of respecting the religious sentiments of the people.

We also believe that elections should not be held during martyrdom week. Arora said that the sacrifice of Baba Fateh Singh and Baba Zorawar Singh, the younger sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, is an important event not only for the Sikh religion but also in the history of the entire country. His martyrdom is an inspiration to all of us. He said that the sacrifice he has made for religion and society at such a young age is unprecedented anywhere in the history of the world.

The president of AAP said that there is an atmosphere of mourning in the whole of Punjab during the martyrdom week. People remain sad remembering the martyrdom of Chhota Sahibzade. Meanwhile, people sleep on the ground even in such cold weather. There are no auspicious events or festivals at this time. Therefore, the Election Commission should pay special attention to these things while announcing the dates and should respect the sentiments of the people. Arora said that although there are some strict orders of the High Court regarding municipal elections. The commission has to fix the date after the order of the court.
