How do I convince these doctors? Mamata sent an invitation to the protesting doctors for a fifth and final talk
16 stember 2024
Protests were held across the country against the rape and murder of a 31-year-old junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. But the junior doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital are still protesting. Mamata Banerjee is trying to convince them. Mamata government has once again sent its invitation for the fifth and last time to talk to the junior doctors.
Chief Secretary Manoj Pant has sent an invitation to the protesting doctors through an email on behalf of the government. In which it is said that, “This is the fifth and last time we are contacting you for a meeting between the Hon’ble Chief Minister and your representatives. In line with our discussion on the previous day, we are once again inviting you for an open-minded discussion with the Hon’ble Chief Minister at his Kalighat residence.” Apart from this, Manoj Pant also said that as per the Supreme Court’s September 9 directive, junior doctors should return to their work. Earlier, Mamata Banerjee had made several attempts to talk to the junior doctors but the junior doctors refused to return to work until justice was delivered in this heinous case and several top officials were removed. Earlier meetings between the state government and doctors were canceled due to disagreements on several issues like live-streaming.
The time for the meeting was fixed for 16 September, 5 pm
Chief Secretary Manoj Pant stressed that the meeting will not be videographed or live-streamed. Let us tell you that the previous meeting was also cancelled for this reason. The email sent further states that, “We believe that as per mutual agreement and as per your statement given to the media a day earlier – there will be no live streaming or videography of the meeting, as the matter is pending in the Supreme Court of the country. Instead, the minutes of the meeting will be recorded and signed by both the parties.” Further, the mail read, “The meeting is scheduled today i.e. 16 September 2024 at 5 pm at the residence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister at Kalighat. The delegation that came for the previous discussion is requested to reach the venue at 4:45 pm today. We look forward to your positive response and a productive and fruitful discussion.”
