RS 20 LAKH IN COMPENSATION PROVIDED TO FAMILIES OF 4 FARMERS WHO DIED DURING FARMERS PROTEST : DC LUDHIANA

Ludhiana, January 21:
Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma has informed that Rs 20 lakh in compensation has been provided to the families of the 4 farmers who unfortunately lost their lives while participating in the ongoing farmers protest. He said that on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh, Rs 5 lakh compensation is being provided to the family of each farmer who unfortunately lost their lives while participating in the protest.
While giving details, the Deputy Commissioner stated that till date, 5 farmers from district Ludhiana have lost their lives while participating in the ongoing farmers protest. He informed that compensation of Rs 5 lakh each has already been provided from the CM Relief Fund to 4 farmers, while the case of fifth farmer is under process.
It is pertinent to mention that Baljinder Singh, son of Jagtar Singh of village Jhamat under Payal sub division, lost his life in a road accident near Kurukshetra (Haryana) when he was returning home on December 1, 2020. Similarly, Gurmeet Singh son of Raghbir Singh of Machhiwara Sahib lost his life in a heart attack at Railway Station Samrala on November 18, 2020. Gajjan Singh son of Pal Singh of village Khatra near Samrala lost his life during farmers protest at Delhi border on November 29, 2020, while Harminder Singh Rai, son of Jangpur village died in a road accident while returning from the protest on December 21, 2020.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that the Punjab government is committed to providing relief to the farmers who are protesting against the farm laws of the union government on Delhi borders and assured that on the directions of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Rs 5 lakh each in compensation is being provided to all such farmers.
