MBBS education in government medical colleges of Punjab has become expensive. The Punjab government has increased the tuition fee by 8.5 percent, after which the total fee for the 5 and a half year MBBS course has increased from Rs 9.98 lakh to about Rs 10.83 lakh. Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has targeted the Punjab government over this increase. She alleged that instead of making medical education cheap and accessible, the government has made it more expensive. Harsimrat Badal called this a step that raises questions on the claims of Punjab’s education and health revolution.
