Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has received a major setback from a New Mexico court. The court has ordered the company to pay 567 million US dollars (about 5000 crore rupees) in compensation for the damage caused to the mental health of young people. A large part of this amount will be spent on treatment, awareness campaigns and prevention services for young people. Meta has already been fined 375 million dollars. The court made this decision considering the serious allegations against the company such as harming the mental health of children and not properly handling information related to sexual abuse.
